My guide was created in 2016 and it still is updated. You may try all of that but I would recommend to play vanilla game first. You may also try mods created by community - those sometimes just add new items, rpg elements, different difficulty of enemies, new quest or even completely different stories. And if you like you may visually enhance game by using high quality textures and DX11 support. In that case you may install community patches, fixes etc. Now game should work out of the box on current systems. 1.08k_mod patch is based on community patch named SystemPack. In March 2021 developers updated Gothic I with 1.08k_mod patch due to problems of game running on current systems.
